Tasting notes
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru has an extremely pure and sensual bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and vanillary scents from the new oak that needs a few more months to be fully subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. It is not the most complex Chambolle-Musigny, but it feels approachable and flatters the senses. Enjoy over the next 12 years. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts-Doix, one-third whole bunch and new oak, was not touched by the frost according to Nicolas Groffier. It has a very fragrant, almost Vosne-like bouquet that is beautifully defined and disarmingly pure. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, a succinct line of acidity, extremely pure like the aromatics with a silky smooth finish that is utterly seductive and as elegant as you will find this vineyard. Superb. Tasted at the Domaine.
Cask sample. Light to mid cherry. This smells much fresher fruited than the Bourgogne and a touch peppery. Has the same compact tannins but there’s much more fruit at the core and this has guts for good ageing. (JH)
