A huge, explosive wine, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is also remarkably nuanced and vivid for such a big wine. Graphite, charcoal, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice wrap around a core of dark fruit. The tannins are huge and searing, so readers have to be prepared to be patient. Even so, the pedigree of this site perched high atop Howell Mountain comes through loud and clear. What a gorgeous wine this is. In a word: magnificent!

Absolutely prodigious, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge (which is more potent at 15% natural alcohol) is a blockbuster with an extraordinary essence of blueberry and blackberry fruit, full-bodied texture, and stunning purity. This is a quintessential example of what Petite Sirah can achieve in the hands of a dedicated and talented winemaking staff. This is sensational stuff that should drink well for 30 or more years.

One of the many highlights in this range, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is absolutely fabulous. Today, the 2014 tastes like a combination of crushed rocks, licorice, graphite, mint, lavender and plums, all classic expressions of Howell Mountain. Powerful yet also remarkably vivid, the 2014 is a real rock star today.
