Score 90/100 · Drink 2016, Robert Parker, Feb 2004
The impressive 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape still sells for a song. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a big, sweet nose of cassis intermixed with cherries, blackberries, and resiny spice box/roasted herb notes. Textured, rich, and pure, with a sweet mid-palate, medium to full body, and an unctuous personality, this beauty will drink well for 10-12 years. Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA; tel. Saturated ruby to the rim. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice and pepper. Intense but somewhat tough black fruit and licorice flavors hint at energetic extraction. Finishes with youthfully tough tannins.
