2000 Chateau Pajzos Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos

This lot of 100% furmint (both base wine and Aszu) fermented entirely in new wood may be blended with other lots for an eventual Tokaji Aszu of 5 or perhaps 6 puttonyos. A bit closed in the nose, with honey and lanolin. In the mouth there is a creamy-rich, attractively leesy character from successful barrel work, and enough acidity to handle 150 grams of sugar. A fine, smoky aura hangs over the whole wine. The finish is honeyed and nutty. 1 star.
