The 2015 Mazi-Chambertin Grand Cru, limited to a single barrel this year, has the most fruit-concentrated bouquet with black plum, blueberry and orange sorbet aromas - almost exotic compared to the refined, perhaps more reserved Chambertin Clos de Bèze. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, extremely precise with a silver thread of acidity. The purity of fruit is outstanding and its sorbet-like finish leaves the mouth tingling. This is another superb wine courtesy of Drouhin this vintage.

Sample. Not Drouhin viticulture. Very dark crimson. Manly, somehow – shades of Hermitage on the nose! Racy and concentrated and very convincing. Lots of confidence and it sort of swishes ecclesiastical robes at you. Very dry finish after pretty magnificent fruit. Very much set for the ambitiously long term. (JR)
