Just as they did last year, the von Schuberts have labeled their auction-bound Kabinett with a prominent lot number. White peach is coolingly tinged with basil as well as richly laced with pistachio and almond extracts on a haunting nose and a succulent, glossy palate. This lacks the brightness or invigoration of its “regular” Kabinett counterpart, but offers compensatory richness. Thankfully, the lusciously lingering, gently soothing finish is not overly sweet.

This very pure, auction-wine riesling has striking clarity on the nose, offering fresh limes, lime blossom, slate and fresh wild herbs, all intermingled. The palate ascends on a ridge of acidity and delivers a striking, vertical impression with such pure, white-peach and lime flavors in a stream of fresh minerals. Drink or hold.

Reserved for the Trier auction in September this year, the gold-capsuled 2018 Maximin Grünhaus Abtsberg Kabinett Nr. 25 is very pure and flinty on the still reductive and sulfur-tinged, beautifully slatey nose that reveals generous, super intense, perfectly ripe and seductive fruit. Lush and juicy, with a beautiful layer of salts and slate on the seamlessly textured palate, this is a perfectly balanced yet tensioned Kabinett with a generous yet precise and highly finessed character. This beauty was picked at the end of September and is from a single Fuder that "tasted so special from the beginning to the end, even in blind tastings," explains Maximin von Schubert. "So, we decided to bottle it on its own under its vat number." Next to Egon Müller and Florian Lauer, this is perhaps the only VDP estate that sells a whole vat through the auction. This Kabinett was bottled with 7.5% alcohol. Tasted in June 2019.
