Tasting notes
96% Shiraz, 4% Viognier from a single organically farmed vineyard in the Moorabool Valley. Vines are 30 years old and a mixture of own-rooted and grafted. Hand-picked. Open-top fermenter, spontaneous ferment. 20% whole bunch and co-fermented Viognier. Matured for 19 months in French oak barrels, one-third new, one-third 1 year old, one-third 2 years old. Bright mid crimson. Sweet oak over vibrant mulberry sweet-tangy fruit and darker blackcurrant notes. With air, more herbal/leafy but not too much. Stemmy freshness and crisp acidity brings great balance to that sweet fruit. Juicy, smooth, deep and fresh at the same time. Needs time. (JH)
