Tasted blind. Sweet, rather tarty fragrance. Then bone-dry palate. Really very demanding. No concession to pleasure! (JR)

Aroma of ripe black cherry, a touch spirity. Pretty aggressive on the palate, the tannins and acidity reinforcing each other. (JH)

A solid effort from this often under-performing estate suggests things are turning around at Olivier. The 2011 offers aromas of wood smoke, graphite, red and black currants and spice in a medium-bodied, nicely executed style. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

Inviting mix of zesty citrus and mealy oak aromas. Grapefruit flavours dominate and the oak is delicately balanced. Quite delicate, refreshing and good persistence, some oak cedar flavour on the very end. (JH)

Square Chateau Olivier
Olivier

Ch. Olivier is one of the few actual castles in Bordeaux – coming with a moat and drawbridge. Since Alexandre de Bethmann took over here in 2012, the château has been given a new lease of life, with quality on the rise.
