Though Christophe Roumier tends to downplay this cuvée, this 2004 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru shows that he's a dab hand at this white wine malarkey. This is quite honeyed on the nose with beeswax and white flowers, hints of almond coming through, cohering beautifully after an hour in the glass. The palate is likewise slightly honeyed, very cohesive with sour lemon and apricot. It's waxy, especially towards the finish. Quintessentially Corton-Charlemagne in style, this improves constantly with aeration, so feel free to give it a long decant. Tasted at the Richebourg vertical dinner in Taipei.

The 2004 Corton-Charlemagne from Christophe Roumier offers attractive scents of smoked walnut, saline notes and a touch of Limoncello on the nose. It gradually reveals more tension with modest amounts of encouragement. The palate is slightly viscous on entry, rounded and sensual with slightly lower acidity than expected that leads to a tangy and lively finish, traces of marmalade on the aftertaste. Drink this now because I feel that at 13-years of age this is reaching its peak. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.
