The 2014 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard is dark powerful and rustic in this vintage, with burly, raw tannins and a somewhat disjointed feel. The warm, drought vintage produced small clusters with small berries, along with a distinctly roasted flavors. The Kirschenmann was more promising from barrel. In bottle, the challenges of the vintage are more apparent.

From vines planted in 1915 in the sandy soils of Lodi, the 2014 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard (at 15.1% alcohol) shows Southern Rhône-like kirsch liqueur, strawberries, and an elegant medium to full-bodied style with plenty of fresh red, blue and darker fruits. Although it seems a far reach to compare Zinfandel to Pinot Noir, this is probably the most Pinot Noir-like of the Turley Zinfandels and an elegant, lovely wine to drink over the next 5-7 years.
Dried rose petal, crushed flowers, mint and savory herbs lift from the 2014 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard. In this vintage, the Kirschenmann is a bit richer and deeper than normal, the result of drought conditions that led to low yields.
