Tasting notes
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard is in a fine place for drinking today. Hints of espresso, spice, lavender, mocha and dried herbs give the 2014 lovely aromatic presence to match its mid-weight personality. There is a bit of firmness in the tannins, but that is the signature of the year. The linear intensity here is impressive.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard from a site on Howell Mountain has that unmistakable herbal, wild character of this appellation front and center. Full-bodied, impressively textured, with dark, earthy aromas of black fruits, chocolate, damp earth, and tobacco, it too has another 2+ decades of prime drinking ahead of it.
Dana's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard is just as impressive as it has always been. The intense minerality and energy of Howell Mountain come through loud and clear in the wine's tension and overall drive. Crushed rocks, inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, lavender and menthol are all fused together. Vibrant, saline notes extend the finish nicely in this super-expressive, but young, wine. A dark, mysterious Cabernet, the 2014 has so much to say. Readers lucky enough to own it can look forward to 15-20 years of very fine drinking.
Entrancing aromas of orange peel, sweet tobacco, mushrooms, clay, espresso chocolate and currants follow through to a medium to full body that builds on the finish with wonderful blackberry, wet-earth and fresh mushroom character. Lasts for minutes. Exuberant and decadent at the same time. More tamed than in the past. Challenging. Very unique. Better in 2022. Exciting to taste. Best Hershey ever?
