Tasting notes
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a nose of dark berry fruit and wild heather that needs time for the small reduction to ebb away. The palate is likewise a little reduced on the entry, though the vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit is appealing and there is a nice touch of spice and aniseed toward the finish. It needs more bottle age, but yeah, it’s a "sexy MF," as the old Prince song goes. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru contains around 20% whole bunches, like the Les Chaumes, but this is clearly a step up in terms of complexity, featuring intense, mineral-driven red berry fruit laced with veins of blueberry. Quintessential Suchots! The refined, poised palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and perfectly pitched acidity. A touch of white pepper pokes through the fruit on the pretty finish. Gorgeous and slightly lascivious.
From a parcel of vines right by the village cemetery, the 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild plums, spices, potpourri, beetroot and French roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and layered, with a generous core of fruit that largely conceals its melting tannins, juicy acids, and a long, tangy and wood-inflected finish.
