The 2007 Musigny Grand Cru is markedly different from the overtly stemmy 2008. This offers plush red cherry and strawberry fruit on the nose, which is pure and engaging – perhaps the most enjoyable Musigny that Christophe Roumier has ever produced. The beautifully balanced palate is supple, rounded and silky smooth, with layer upon layer of lush red fruit intermingling with tangerine and blood orange. You could argue that it is monotone compared to the 2008, but you could also argue that the stems are far better integrated. This is a thoroughly pleasurable Musigny that should give 15 to 20 years of drinking fulfillment. It’s like a pimped-up Les Amoureuses! Tasted in November 2018 at the Roumier Musigny dinner at Épure in Hong Kong.

Bright, deep red. Musky aroma of sweet black raspberry. Lush, opulent and sweet; almost shockingly open now. A wonderfully broad, explosively sweet wine that finishes with outstanding breadth, length and lift. This has to shut down in bottle, doesn't it?

(malo done; racked two weeks before my visit) Bright, deep red. Pungent aromas of raspberry, blood orange and flowers, all lifted by spicy oak. Wonderfully pure and stylish wine with superb sap and grip. Comes across as more ethereal-perhaps leaner-than the Bonnes-Mares; in fact, this is downright weightless in the mouth. Finishes with superb grip and finesse. Great potential here.
