Score 88/100 · Drink 2019-2020, Neal Martin, Aug 2019
The 1997 Musigny Grand Cru is a vintage I had only tasted on one previous occasion, when it was rather unimpressive. Fortunately, this bottle is better. The nose is earthy and leafy – perhaps, like some other vintages, displaying a stem-like character that has not fully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and lacks the harmony of other vintages, tapering slightly toward the finish. On this showing, Christophe Roumier oversaw a better Bonnes-Mares in this year. Tasted at a private Roumier dinner at The Ledbury.
