One-third was aged for 6–8 months in French oak barriques (10% new), the rest in stainless steel. Tasted blind. Opulent, baked tropical fruit on the nose. Long, pithy palate with rounded acid, oak spice and slight matchstick complexity to finish. (RH)

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with ample mineralité in the context of the growing season, with touches of oyster shell developing with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced, lightly spiced with just the right amount of bitterness, taut with satisfying tension and energy towards the finish. This is certainly worth seeking out. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru was taken from tank rather than barrel. This was primal on the nose and challenging to read. The palate is more expressive: finely tuned with a fine bead of acidity, tensile and saline. It does not boast the complexity of Raveneau's Les Clos, tasted an hour or two before, but it has great penetration and a compelling flinty finish. Excellent.
