The 2000 Barolo Vecchie Vigne shows good freshness in its color, aromas and flavors. It has retained excellent depth and power, with layers of fruit that build nicely towards the long, powerful finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. These wines were made before brothers Renato and Giuliano Corino had divided their family’s estate. Today the Rocche is made by Renato. Each brother bottles a Vecchie Vigne (old-vine) Barolo, but the vines that inform the 2000 currently belong to Giuliano.

Corino's 2000 Barolo Vecchie Vigne, made predominantly from the oldest vines in Giachini, reveals a heady nose of toasted oak, minerals, licorice and menthol. It is an outstanding, muscular and layered Barolo that offers plenty of dense dark fruit, chocolate and mineral flavors with superb integration, as well as excellent persistence and length on the palate. Very complete and satisfying.

(70% new barriques; mostly from Giachini fruit) Good deep red. Spicy oak lifts the strawberry and raspberry aromas; complicating notes of flowers and mocha. Sweet, lush and dense, offering excellent concentration and very good energy in the mouth. Very rich Barolo but not at all heavy. Finishes long and pliant, with suave tannins and lingering notes of minerals and spices. Corino reportedly is steadily reducing his use of new barriques, and this is all to the good.
