The 2019 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is the real deal. Dark cherry, pressed iris flower, crushed stone and blueberry burst from the glass, all with killer delineation and focus. You could inhale this all day! The palate is sculpted to perfection, symmetrical and poised, gaining intensity in the glass toward its satin-textured finish. This is going to be glorious! Tasted at the Clos de Bèze vertical at La Cobotte.

More reserved, the 2019 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru unwinds in the glass to reveal scents of sweet berries, plums, licorice, warm spices, rose petals and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, seamless and perfumed, it's deep and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit that's framed by velvety tannins and lively acids. It will reward patience, though its structural elegance and the inherent charm of the vintage mean that it's far from forbidding right now.

The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru comes from vines planted in 1920 and includes 25% whole bunch. It is deeper in color than the Latricières. This takes time to unfold in the glass, eventually offering well-defined blackberry, raspberry, incense and pressed iris aromas that soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, harmonious and effortlessly poised. This is an outstanding Clos-de-Bèze, one of the finest I have tasted from the estate.
