The 2014 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a powerful bouquet, slightly reductive, with a touch of gunflint and sea spray. That marine influence becomes stronger as it opens in the glass. The palate has a lovely sappy entry, a keen thread of acidity and impressive weight and structure. There's real substance to this Les Perrières. The finish offers lemon thyme and dried orange peel, sustained towards the finish with plenty of length; this is an excellent Meursault that should give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Meursault dinner in Hong Kong.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières has a sophisticated bouquet with yellow flowers and almond scents interwoven into the precise citrus fruit and cold stone aromas. There is impressive focus and detail here. The palate is very well balanced with fine delineation, an incisive twist of sour lemon that leads you into an intense and very persistent saline finish. This is an outstanding Meursault from Ballot-Millot.

(from 35-year-old vines; aged in 20% new oak, like the other premier crus here): Pale, bright yellow. Saline crushed rock on the nose, along with hints of pineapple, orange blossom and spices. Supple, silky and light on its feet, with pineapple and fresh peach flavors enlivened by minerality and vibrant acidity. Delivers lovely inner-mouth perfume and a weightless impression. This impeccably balanced, edge-free wine shows deceptive early accessibility but has the intensity and mineral support to age gracefully. Boasts a lovely combination of salinity and ripeness and finishes with terrific length.
