Tasting notes
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid is terrific, offering a classic Coombsville cooler style vibe in its red and blue fruits as well as floral nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it’s concentrated and pure, with ripe tannins. There’s some present oak that will integrate with 2-3 years of bottle age, but this is a beautiful, serious, balanced, age-worthy beauty that should have 20 years of longevity.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid comes labeled with actually lower alcohol than the 2018 version (14.3% versus 14.7%), but it comes across as more expansive and velvety. It's all Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of clones, but boasts a more flamboyant nature and is just more fun to drink. Hints of camphor, blackberries and cassis mark the nose of this full-bodied effort, lingering boisterously on the long, mouthwatering finish.
A pretty nose of blackberries, cassis, bark, bay leaves and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Fruity, round and velvety with a flavorful, bright finish.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid is powerful, dense and full of character. Today, the Perseid is holding back much of its potential, but it's all there, buried under a mass of heady dark fruit. Dried herbs, cedar, pipe tobacco, menthol and wild cherry gradually emerge with some coaxing. The 2019 is an undeniably attractive wine, but I have to admit, I wonder what it might taste like with a less pushed, less overtly oaky style. (AG)
