Tasting notes
From one of the projects that has helped put Coombsville on the map as a significant Napa Cab player, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid is slightly smoky and slightly herbal on the nose, but it backs both of those with vibrant cassis and black cherry notes. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's at once taut and silky but with what appears to be significant aging potential. It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon—a blend of Clones 4 (45%), 7 (41%) and 337 (14%).

I was able to taste two wines from Meteor Vineyards, both coming from the Coombsville appellation. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid has a dark, complex, medium to full-bodied, and incredibly floral style that has good freshness in its darker currant fruits as well as chocolate, damp earth, and leafy herb-like aromas and flavors. It has nicely integrated oak, beautiful purity and elegance, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, elegant red that's very much in the style of the vintage. It's going to keep for two decades.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid from Meteor Vineyard is heady and explosive right out of the glass. A rich concoction of raspberry jam, spice, mocha, dried flowers, menthol and licorice blasts out of the glass. Deep, unctuous and full-bodied, the Perseid is just stunning in its beauty. It is also one of Napa Valley's under the radar gems. I don't hear much about the Meteor Cabernets, which is a real shame. The 2016 Perseid is a total stunner. Don't miss it.
