Score 90-91/100 · Drink 2004-2012, Pierre Rovani, Dec 2001

The buttered mineral-scented 2000 Batard-Montrachet is rich, opulent, and medium-bodied. Loads of butter-dripping popcorn can be found in this zesty, concentrated wine's personality. Lemons and limes pop up in its finish, giving it a tangy, zesty component to offset its otherwise lush character. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; tel. Complex and dramatically fragrant aromas of peach, pear, touch of earth and trace of wood spice introduce flavors that simply explode in the mouth. Very powerful and very masculine in style, this is a take-no-prisoners style of wine that manages to avoid excess and delivers the weight and power with grace. There is undeniably grand cru concentration here with a finish that lasts for minutes. This is every bit as big as the Montrachet and definitely better than its 1999 counterpart.
