Good deep red. Musky aromas of blueberry, camphor, smoked meat and roasted coffee. Dense, lush and sweet, with complex flavors of creme de mure , leather, game, smoke and earth. There's a note of minty lift here, but this is an essentially solid, somewhat chunky style of Clos Vougeot. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and moderate length.

(100% new oak; Magnien told me he has barrels of juice from "all four corners" of this grand cru) Good deep red-ruby. Redcurrant, menthol and spicy oak on the nose. Very rich and sweet, with a slight yeasty character showing today. Can't match the Clos de Beze for cut or high pitch but this has more fat and texture. There's an exotic, slightly high-toned aspect here that reminded me of a Cote-Rotie. This relies more on its substantial building tannins than on its ripe acids for structure.

Exciting richness and density that runs right through the palate. Pretty flash and fruity! (JR)
