Tasting notes
Rose petals, incense, cinnamon, steeped plums and ash only begin to paint the picture as the dramatic 2019 Etna Rosso Centenari blossoms in the glass. This is dark and radiant with silken textures and tart red and black fruits that slowly saturate, all kept in perfect balance by a core of tantalizing acidity. The 2019 leaves a coating of grippy tannins, keeping the mouth watering as hints of blood orange meet sour cherry tones. In the end, it’s the chalky minerality that lingers on and seals the deal. Fantastic. This is close in form to the killer 2016.

The 2019 Etna Bianco Superiore is extremely expressive, blending raw almond with an oyster shell that gives way to crushed apricot hints of spearmint and a slight tinge of vanilla bean. Seamlessly silky and refined, it easily flows across the palate, combining depths of minerality with brisk acids and tart orchard fruits to create a reverberation of tension. The 2019 finishes with outstanding length and potency, practically salty in character yet lively, pinching at the cheeks with nuances of tart citrus. An air of exotic spice slowly dissipates. In a word, stunning! This is gorgeous today, yet the best is yet to come. The Aeris is created through a combined effort of Salvo Foti of Etna and the team at Rhys. This is a varietal Carricante that no lover of Etna wines should be without.
