Tasting notes
The Aeris 2017 Etna Bianco Superiore (a pure expression of Carricante) opens to a mildly saturated off-gold color with aromas of waxy fruit and honey. This hot-vintage white is heavier in approach and flatter in aromatic definition overall, with some aromatic high notes, but ultimately the wine feels flatter compared to the far more vibrant and jazzed personality we saw in the previous vintage. Preserved lemon, crushed stone and a touch of paint lacquer is woven into the wine’s mid-weight fiber.

The 2017 Etna Bianco Superiore pulls you in with rich crushed ripe apple and pear scents complemented by honeyed florals, camphor and crushed stone. It’s undeniably elegant, with silken textures enveloping the palate in decadent ripe fruits, along with an almondy, saline richness. This finishes long, salty and savory, lingering on young peach and a subtle bitter note of wild herbs. An absolutely thrilling glass of Carricante from Etna’s eastern slope. As beautiful as this is today, a few years of cellaring certainly won’t hurt.
