The NV (2019) Extra-Brut Avize Les Chantereines offers a stunning interplay of vintage 2019 richness with a good deal of vibrancy. Citrus peel, white flowers, tangerine peel, acacia and lightly honeyed notes soar from the glass. The Avize is a Champagne of real reserve, almost aristocratic, noble reserve, and yet there is plenty of power packed into its frame. All the elements are so finely sketched. I won't be surprised if, like all of these Champagnes, the 2019 becomes fresher and more vibrant in time. Dosage is 1.2 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 18, 2026

From an east-facing site in Avize, the latest NV Blanc de Blancs Avize Les Chantereines is based on the 2017 vintage, with a perpetual blend component dating back to 2002, and was disgorged in January 2024 with one gram per liter dosage. The majority of the vineyard was planted in 1929 (0.25 hectares), with the remainder planted in 1922 (0.1 hectares), making it the domaine's vineyard with the oldest vines. Located at the bottom of the slope, where there is more limestone than clay, it’s a superb, intensely flavored wine. It wafts from the glass with a bouquet of pine resin, honeysuckle, dried fig, vanilla and beeswax. Full-bodied, layered and deep, it is more muscular than Les Carelles. Laden with mouthwatering acidity and chalky structuring extract, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish. Great pleasure awaits the lucky few who will get to enjoy this rare wine, released as part of the six lieux-dits case; it is already drinking superbly.
