Tasting notes
Dark depths of dried black cherries, exotic spice, pine shavings, ground cloves and flowery underbrush form a beguiling bouquet as the 2021 Syrah Fracture Ext comes to life in the glass. For all of its intensity on the nose, this presents a wonderfully fresh and energetic character, with crisp wild berry fruits offset by hints of sour citrus that curl the tongue. It finishes with dramatic length and structure but remains spry, persisting with a tart blackberry concentration and notes of tobacco that linger on. The balance within is spellbinding.

The 2021 Fracture Syrah was matured for 18 months in 60% new French oak. It has very pure aromas of cassis, blueberry, milk chocolate, licorice, cracked peppercorn and thyme. The full-bodied palate is velvety and seamless with a deep core of perfumed fruit and a long, fragrant finish. I love this effortless combination of ripeness and elegance. 2,000 cases were made.
The flagship 2021 Fracture is, as always, all Syrah from that spent 18 months in French oak (60% new and 40% neutral). This inky hued, concentrated, full-bodied beauty has ample darker, chocolaty fruit as well as notes of peppery herbs, smoked meats, and graphite. Dense, powerful, and opulent, it stays beautifully balanced on the palate, has ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's a powerhouse of a Syrah that still shows the cooler, vibrant style of the 2021 vintage. It will keep for a decade at a minimum, but it's gorgeous even today.
