Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2026, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Jul 2024

Spottswoode's 2022 Sauvignon Blanc blends fruit from Napa and Sonoma—the proportions are 58% Napa and 42% Sonoma this year. Fermented and matured in a mix of new and used oak, stainless steel and amphorae/eggs, the wine boasts lovely citrus notes—lemon-lime and some riper expressions as well—plus touches of fig and guava. It's medium to full-bodied, a bit plump and creamy on the mid-palate, then fresh and zesty on the finish.

Contains 2% Sémillon. Fermented in small stainless-steel and French oak barrels, an amphora, one ceramic and two concrete tanks. 58% Napa County fruit, 42% Sonoma County fruit. Certified B Corp and 1% for the Planet. Aromas of candied green apple and passion fruit. Electrically bright flavours of green apple, kiwi and passion fruit are juicy, stony and mouth-watering thanks to fantastic acidity and an ever-so-faint salinity. Delicious. (AY)

58% Napa County, 42% Sonoma County. Oak spice plus fruit that gives sweet-sour aromas. Incredibly bitter on the palate, yet there is lots of lactic style too. This style isn't for me – the contrast is too high, and that pungency has a reduced edge that tastes stagnant to me. (RH)

About the producer

Spottswoode
Spottswoode

Spottswoode is one of those rare Napa estates whose reputation rests less on volume or spectacle than on persistent exactitude. Set on the western edge of St Helena, where the Mayacamas rise and afternoon breezes temper the valley’s warmth, the vineyard occupies a favoured pocket of the appellation.
