Score 16/20 · Drink 2017-2020, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2017
Fermented in terracota amphorae, and malolactic fermentation in French oak barriques. Aged for 24 24 months in new barriques. Healthy mid crimson. Lifted cherry fruit with an overlayer of sweet oak and creamy coconut. Tangy cherry fruit on the palate and it is a posh wine, but the dominant oak flavour distorts the clarity of the fruit. I don’t understand that zealous oak ageing, especially in the light of the left field winemaking, that then becomes totally conventional at the stage of ageing. This wine begs for large oak casks.
