The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru is showing wonderfully now. There's much more fruit than expected with red plum and raspberry coulis, just a hint of sous-bois and excellent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins and a keen line of acidity. The 2012 is harmonious with a gentle grip towards the lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. Superb. Tasted at Stannery Wines' producer tasting in London.

Canneyt noted that this wine had been heavily reduced and was the only wine in the range to have been racked but even so the nose remains reduced though background notes of wood are in evidence. There is first-rate detail to the tightly wound mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that terminate in an awkward and edgy finish that is probably due to the high level of gas. My range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will clean up properly by the time it is ready to be bottled. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2020+

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaumonts from Hudelot-Noellat has a slightly diffuse, open-knit bouquet with jammy red cherry and redcurrant fruit, a touch of gaminess coming through with aeration, but never really coalescing. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and good acidity, though the finish feels a little abrasive at the moment, foursquare and missing a little charm. It needs more fleshy fruit to fill in the gaps. Give it three or four more years to see what it can do, but here, it is outplayed by its peers. Oct 2015, www.robertparker.com
