Tasting notes
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a sweet, candied nose, very floral but lacking a little delineation, monotone and a little chocolaty. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and slightly chalky in texture. Spicy, like Grivot's Beauxmonts, but without the same breeding toward the drier finish. Strange showing, this. I will place a question mark against my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts surpasses its showing from barrel, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries, orange rind, peonies, potpourri and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit, refined tannins and an appealing sense of completeness.
Mid greyish crimson. Sweet and round and directed. Good energy and very youthful. Lots of tight, tart tannins for the moment but I think the excellent fruit will triumph eventually. (JR)
