The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a lot of reduction on the nose, which compromises terroir expression. It is difficult to tell how much is behind it. The palate is sapid and a bit chewy in style—a "solid" Les Cazetiers. It is not flattering at the moment, but there is plenty of substance towards the finish. It lingers with blackcurrant and raspberry fruit plus a welcome dash of cracked black pepper. Patience required. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is more serious, wafting from the glass with notes of plums, orange zest, warm spices, potpourri and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, with good intensity of flavor, lively acids and a saline finish, it will age with grace.
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru, which Magnien describes as his "garden" that has technically been around since 1656, has a compelling bouquet with black plum, quince and crushed limestone scents that unfold in the glass. It gains intensity with just a few swirls. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. This is the silkiest of Magnien's cuvées with a seductive and persistent finish that just seems to "glide" across the senses. There is real panache here. Superb.
