The 2011 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 1er Cru does not quite deliver the purity and vigor that I was expecting on the nose: a little disjointed at first, though coalescing to offer scents of crushed red berries, Chinese tea and cold stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, darker fruit than say the Chaignots from Mugneret-Gibourg with a linear and quite vigorous finish that lingers in the mouth. Drink now and over the next decade. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Still quite a pale crimson. Sweet but racy and a hands-off approach. Really quite delicate! Great balance. (JR)

Bright, moderately saturated red. Deeply pitched nose conveys plum, spices and earth. Smooth, smoky and subtle; in a warmer style than the foregoing wines but fresh too, offering good finesse to its raspberry and underbrush flavors. Finishes sappy, savory and long, with fine-grained tannins. This was picked on the first day of the harvest with grape sugars in the low 12s, said Van Canneyt, adding that it was chaptalized to 13.5%.

An exuberantly spicy nose of earthy red and blue pinot fruit, violet and a hint of the sauvage seamlessly merges into bigger, richer and more powerful flavors that are blessed with plenty of palate coating dry extract before culminating in a pure, seductively textured and balanced finish. Good stuff here. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2019+
