The 2014 Côte Rôtie showed beautifully, and it's a classy, elegant, yet beautifully concentrated effort from this great estate. Classic Jamet notes of smoky darker fruits, cured meats, and ground pepper turn more floral and elegant with time in the glass, and it's medium-bodied, with a beautiful mid-palate and sweet tannins. This hidden little gem of a 2014 has another 15 years of prime drinking.

Slightly rubbery and reductive on the nose, the 2014 is hard to get into at the moment. With air, there is a strong white- and black-pepper note together with ripe red fruit. Young and chalky on the palate, there are good bones here for those willing to wait. It should be silky, cool and refined in a few years ’ time. (TP)

In contrast to the impenetrable 2015, the 2014 Cote Rotie is downright drinkable already, no doubt because of the vintage conditions. Medium-bodied, silky and red fruited, it's open and generous, ideal for drinking over the next 8-9 years.

Deep ruby. Heady, smoke- and mineral-tinged blueberry, raspberry and violet aromas show outstanding clarity and a hint of Asian spices. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering deeply concentrated but surprisingly animated red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors, along with a suggestion of spicecake. The strikingly long, penetrating finish features intense minerally cut, an echo of juicy red fruit and fine-grained tannins that come in late.
