I asked to re-taste the 2018 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru since the previous bottle at the blind Burgfest tasting was corked. This time, thankfully, there is no TCA. Yet it takes time to open, delivering blackcurrant and bilberry scents, fine delineation, just a hint of black olive, the 75% whole clusters now nearly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, plenty of freshness, quite saline in the mouth with a slightly muscular finish. It will require several years in bottle but it should be worth the wait.

The 2018 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has some TCA on the nose, which is ever so slightly annoying. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
Such youthful fruit! Really impressive, but it's hard to find the complexity. There is plenty of violet perfume, I suppose. This requires plenty of age. (RH)
Two out of the three barrels were new. The plot was green-harvested twice. Engerer described the wine as 'an easy smiling kid'. Cask sample. Masses of friendly fruit on the nose. In fact you have to search for the fine tannins underneath it although on the finish you find some grainy texture and the flavour of bitter cherries. It would be dangerously easy to drink even at this early stage. (JR)
