The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers dark plum and raspberry fruit, rooibos and light floral scents that cohere in the glass. There is certainly some reduction present. The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry. Slightly rigid tannins render this a more serious, linear Echézeaux that misses the charm and silky texture of the preceding Echézeaux from Pierre-Vincent Girardin. It pulls up a bit short on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which contains no whole cluster this year, has a clean and precise bouquet, dark berry fruit mixed with peony and subtle flinty aromas. The palate is very harmonious with kirsch and orange zest on the entry, almost sorbet-fresh with saturated tannins. The finish is quite linear yet with a slightly confit aftertaste. Delicious.
Cropped at a mere 17 hectoliters per hectare, the 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru offers up aromas of red berries, cherries, peonies, sweet spices, orange rind and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and a bright, saline finish, it's deceptively concentrated and penetrating despite its elegant profile.
