Tasting notes
Very dark, bright red. Currant, black cherry, menthol and licorice on the nose, along with a note of oak char. Chewy dark fruit, licorice and chocolate flavors come across as a bit medicinal and clenched today, with some acidity yet to be absorbed. Offers good density but seems a bit overextracted. Finishes with an herbal element and building dusty tannins. I don't find much sangiovese perfume here.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo is a rich, explosive wine endowed with generous fruit and an extroverted personality to match. Black cherries, flowers, licorice and spices are woven together nicely in this deep, layered Brunello. The 2007 will appeal most to readers who appreciate the lush, fruit-driven side of Brunello. This is very well done but falls just a bit short of being viscerally thrilling.
