Tasting notes
The 50 Year Old category has only just been introduced – and Taylor’s has wasted no time launching an exceptional wine under its banner, with their Golden Age Tawny. A blend of exceptional casks selected by their team, even after half a century, this wine has the most gorgeous colour – almost chestnut with a golden rim. It’s an amazing wine with nutty complexity and savoury touches, yet there’s also a citrus fruit and candied peel vibrancy that makes it feel lively and fresh, despite the wine’s unctuous texture and decadent sweetness. Indeed the glorious acidity here accentuates an almond-edged finish. Superb wine that deserves a cheeseboard and open-ended afternoon.

Another celebration of the 50 th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in a much darker, denser blended wine than Graham’s Single Harvest Tawny . Very rich, dense and intense. Fruity and long. (JR)
Aromas of balsamic, mahogany, Georgian furniture and dried fruits. Salted dried almonds. Medium-bodied, very sweet. Sultanas. Figs. Yet fresh and intensely flavored with a long, long finish. Love the finish. Salted caramel.
The NV 50 Year Old Tawny Port is a field blend bottled with a bar-top cork in 2022 and with 158 grams of residual sugar. Mature, with dark chocolate nuances, this is rich, deep and sensationally delicious. The concentration is exceptional too. Then, there's the long, long finish, filled with fruit and sugar. It is irresistible, in addition to being nuanced and complex. It's young enough so that it is never just a curiosity. The fruit is certainly not cracking.
