Score 98/100 · Drink 2024-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2024

The 2005 Château Tertre Roteboeuf is the usual blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was raised in new barrels. It's deep ruby-hued, with an incredible perfume and black raspberries, currants, smoked tobacco, spicy herbs, cedar, and smoked earth. This powerful, full-bodied, deep, layered, incredibly textured Saint-Emilion is just now at the early stage of its prime drinking window and has another two decades.

Tasted blind. Healthy glowing dark crimson. Heady, very Merlot nose. Sweet start and then gives way to acidity and fine tannins. This could already give pleasure if served with food. (JR)

Slightly green top note but lovely luscious sweet fruit on the palate – really racy and gorgeous though a little more forward than one might think ideal. Not heavy. Clean, refreshing finish, though not exceptionally persistent. (JR)
