Tasting notes
The 2015 Maya is another gorgeous wine from Dalla Valle. Dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint, spice and sweet pipe tobacco are all finely knit together. The 2015 is quite open aromatically. Although it preserves terrific textural depth, based on this showing, my impression is that Maya will mature a touch faster than the Cabernet Sauvignon.

A lovely wine, filled with baking spices, cumin, cinammon, blackberry, damson, creme de cassis, with a juicy sign off. Exceptionally luscious and yet still balanced, Cabernet Sauvignon dominant in its character and structure. Andy Erikson winemaker, doing a great job with a drought vintage, with the added complication of hail, so overall an early and small harvest lasting from September 5 to 10, producing just one ton per acre of fruit. Organic farming.
Realm Cellars historic Napa Valley tasting. Maya Dalla Valle would have been in the thick of her admirable studies in Bordeaux when this wine was made. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from Maya’s vineyard and fruit from the best Cabernet Franc blocks on hillside vineyards east of Oakville. From a warm vintage but by no means overripe. Savoury and fresh with obvious Cabernet Franc fragrance and elegance. Still very youthful. Racy, sleek and really rather gorgeous. Complete. Long. Subtle and sophisticated. (JR)
As good as it gets, yet in a different style compared to the also perfect 2016, the 2015 Maya Proprietary Red Wine boasts a sensational, ethereal, heavenly style to go with tons of cassis and blackberry fruits intermixed with notions of dried earth, tobacco, chocolate, and a beautiful sense of minerality. This cuvée is normally a blend of 60-70% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, and it’s the Cabernet Franc that gives it another layer of complexity and elegance. The sexy, upfront nature of the 2015 vintage is front and center. This is a magical wine to drink over the coming 3+ decades.
