Score 96/100 · Drink 2022-2040, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2022

Deep ruby in colour with crushed sour cherry, rosemary and cinnamon. A hint of minerality. Full body, high tannins, high acidity. Consistency wins over anything else; there is Tuscany in the dried herbs, there is Bordeaux in the concentration on the palate, there is 2012 in the dilution of the fruit in the mouth. But in the end this wine, with its constant impetuosity, is first of all Guado al Tasso. 1 year oak ageing, then blended, then 6 more months in oak.

The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is one of the very best wines in the Antinori range. Dark, sumptuous and wonderfully expressive, the 2012 graces the palate with exceptional finesse. Mocha, espresso, plum, black cherries, smoke and menthol blossom on the rich, expansive finish. There is plenty of Bolgheri immediacy, but the growing season, which was about 20 days longer than normal, helped give the wine an extra dimension of balance. I continue to be impressed with the work the Antinori family has done at Guado al Tasso, where the flagship wine has improved considerably over the last few years.

The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Guado Al Tasso is a wine to fall in love with at first sight. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot offers enormous fullness and generosity that accompanies all the senses. The effect is seamless with thick extraction and richness that is contrasted against the tonic freshness of the fruit. The wine is creamy, soft and enduring. You can count on this vintage to age ten years or more.
