The 2000 Montrachet Grand Cru is in fine shape on this night. In fact, this is an especially fine bottle. The 2000 has never been a truly epic Montrachet, so I am quite pleased with this showing. Tangerine oil, chamomile, spice and light tropical inflections abound. Although not as opulent as the most heady vintages nor as focused as the most vibrant years, all the elements are impeccably balanced. Perhaps most importantly, it has aged very gracefully. The 2000 is the product of a very late harvest. The fruit was brought in on September 25, after all the Pinots had been picked. Tasted at a private dinner.

The 2000 Montrachet is delicate and silky. Shades of orchard fruit flowers and almonds are laced throughout this delicate, rather hushed, Montrachet. Soft contours add to the wine's sensual inviting personality. Tasted at the Los Angeles DRC Montrachet vertical.

The 2000 Montrachet is another wine that is hugely inviting today because of its soft contours and open-knit personality. Orchard fruit, lemon oil, white flowers and a host of bright flavors give the 2000 an attractive sense of lift, but it is the wine's gentle, approachable style that makes the biggest impression in this tasting, where so many wines are much more intense. Caressing and feminine, the 2000 should drink well for at least a handful of years, although it does not appear to have the pedigree of the very best surrounding vintages. The fruit was brought in on September 25, after all the Pinots had been harvested.
