The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos has a detailed bouquet with flint, smoke and light spicy aromas developing in the glass. The palate is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity, very fine depth and poise, that spicy tincture becoming more pronounced towards the finish. What I appreciate in this Chablis Les Clos is the harmony, perhaps even more than the Les Blanchots. It just glides along and gently fans out, leaving the customer satisfied and demanding more. This is superb.

Smoky, expressive and ripe, with a lot of the mineral quality that is more often associated with the Côte d'Or. Full-bodied, rich, pure and rewarding. Excellent stuff. (RH)

Pale bright yellow. Flinty reduction to the aromas of tangy orange zest, smoked meat and gunpowder. Large-scaled and quite spicy, conveying a rather unformed character to its wild flavors of crystallized lemon peel, licorice, flowers and Tabasco sauce. A wine of outstanding density, ripeness and salinity. Laroche's Blanchots is a colder limestone wine, while this is from a hotter site that nonetheless retained superb acidity in 2014.

Multifaceted aromas of lemon, orange zest, dusty stone, flint and white pepper sexed up by a yeasty, marrowy complexity. Sappy, saline and pure, showing outstanding inner-mouth energy and penetration. Virtually all of these 2014s have high acidity buffered by dry extract and spices. Almost youthfully bitter today and yet this bracing Clos is also pliant and sweet. Finishes with superb salty grip and length. This should age for a long time.
