From a blend of 48% Merlot 37% Cab Sauv and 15% Petit Verdot cropped at a miniscule 20 hl/ha with 13.1% alcohol. a very curranty dark fruit nose with some Margaux soapy notes coming through with air. The mid palate is juicy with bright acids and there is a lovely round quality to the tannins. Good and solid.

The 2011 Alter Ego de Palmer has a ripe and generous bouquet, impressive fruit concentration with blackberry, raspberry and bilberry, pencil box and pressed violets. Quintessential Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, fleshy and forward, quite bold compared to its peers though it lacks some complexity and delineation on the finish. Great nose, the palate not quite matching up. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Deep purplish crimson. Quite extracted and exaggerated. Hard work on the end. Very pinched. Surprisingly backward. (JR)

Leathery dark fruit, a bit earthy on the nose. Plenty of fruit on the palate too but it is a touch sour, more elderberry than cassis. But it has direction and freshness and fruit. And the tannins are grippy but not tough. (JH)
