Dry finish but masses of exciting and complex fruit on the mid palate with notes of blackcurrant. Sweet and so rich! With lots of life still in it, even in a regular 75-cl bottle.

The 1975 Cos d’Estournel is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. It is worryingly showing a very brownish turbid color. The nose feels stewed, perhaps heavily chaptalized but it cannot disguise the vegetal note underneath. The palate is cloying on the entry with brown sugar and a touch of spice, but very volatile and bitter on the finish. Not its finest hour. Tasted at the Cos d’Estournel vertical at the property.

This is not a pretty wine. The amber-tinged color is followed by earthy, vegetal, spicy scents, and little fruit. Harsh, austere, and frightfully tannic, this hollow wine will undoubtedly keep for 20-25 years, but it will never provide any pleasure. Drink it up.
