Looking at the 2014s, these are easily up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. The entry-level 2014 Saint Joseph Silice is shockingly good in the vintage and sports a deep purple/ruby color to go with vibrant notes of black cherries, bouquet garni, pepper and earth. Medium-bodied, fresh, focused and elegant, with terrific purity and freshness, it’s a no-brainer purchase to drink over the coming 5-6 years.

(raised entirely in oak barrels, none of them new): Bright violet. High-pitched aromas of fresh red berries and pungent flowers are complemented by dusty mineral and cracked pepper nuances. Offers sappy red fruit flavors and shows very good depth and seamless texture; slow-building spiciness and a touch of anise appear on the back half. Emphatically fruity and forward, finishing with fine-grained, silken tannins and a lingering raspberry note.
