Score 89/100 · Drink 2017-2023, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jun 2016

(12.9% alcohol): Vibrant red-ruby color. Bright but reduced aromas of black raspberry, black olive, game and black pepper. Big, round and very dry, with just a touch of sweetness to the flavors of red berries and cocoa nibs. Finishes distinctly dry and a bit phenolic, with granular tannins. This will be the last vintage for The Unnamed as Reynvaan is not wild for this blend.

A unique blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache Blanc that spent 18 months in 25% new French oak, the 2013 The Unnamed Syrah is a medium to full-bodied, elegant effort (like all of the 2013s here) that has lots of kirsch, iron, licorice and dried underbrush in a silky, elegant, slightly mid-weight package. It’s taking freshness and elegance to the extreme, yet is certainly an outstanding wine that has plenty to love. Drink it over the coming 8-10 years.
