The 2021 Pinot Noir Laurène is especially complex and expressive. Pomegranate, rhubarb and strawberry are accented by wafts of rosewater, tar, blood orange and lavender. The medium-bodied palate features generous, nuanced flavors. It’s structured by chalky tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity and has a very long, nuanced finish. It's a great candidate for the cellar.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Laurène is darkly alluring and complex with dusty roses, ashen stones and dried black cherries complicated by a dusting of cinnamon and cola. This is deeply textural yet energetic and finessed: silken waves of ripe red fruits and sweet inner florals find lovely refinement through a core of tactile minerals. Sour citrus hints linger along with whispers of wild berry preserves. The 2021 tapers off long, beautifully balanced and lightly structured with a lingering tug of fine-grained tannins.

A deep ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Laurene is ripe with cherry fruit, turned earth, and crushed violets. Medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins, a meaty texture, and good freshness, it has a good, clean finish. Drink it over the next several years. This was my second visit to the estate of Domaine Drouhin, where I met with David Millman and assistant winemaker Arron Bell. This benchmark estate was founded in 1987 in the Dundee Hills by the Burgundian estate Maison Joseph Drouhin, and fourth-generation winemaker Veronique Drouhin-Boss oversees the estate today. Given Domaine Drouhin’s commanding presence in the region, it’s always fantastic to see when the wines reach and even exceed expectations across the portfolio, as they have certainly done in the 2021 vintage.
