Tasting notes
Full bottle 1,634 g. 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Aged for 18 months in French oak, 74% new. NHB. Inky purple. Sweet black-fruited nose laced with vanilla. Incredibly high levels of dense mouth-coating tannin with enough acid to balance. Very concentrated, with oak spice lingering on the dry finish. Massive wine built for ageing – painfully tight at the moment. (SCJ)

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Expedition comes from a mix of valley floor and mountain fruit and functions as the entry-level wine from this label. It has a beautifully layered, ripe, yet nicely concentrated style in its darker currant, tobacco, and spicy aromatics, and its medium to full-bodied, with a round, layered mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It’s well worth drinking and will have 10-12 years of longevity.
Bottled in April 2024 and scheduled for release this fall, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Expedition combines lots from the winery's Base Camp (approximately two-thirds) with barrels from Stags Ridge (one-third) on Atlas Peak. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it delivers scents of ripe cherries and black plums, accented by hints of bay leaf and mint. It's full-bodied in the mouth, soft and approachable but textured, with a velour-like finish.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Expedition is a sexy, open-knit offering from Seven Apart. Succulent red cherry/plum fruit, cedar, leather, blood orange and spice lift from the glass. Medium in body, with lovely forwardness and fine balance, the Expedition is a terrific introduction to the estate. Silky, polished tannins round things out in style.
