Score 87/100 · Drink 2000-2010, Robert Parker, Dec 2000
The 1997 Merlot (5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon are included in the blend) is not a wimpish wine (14.1% alcohol). This dark ruby-colored, fragrant Merlot exhibits spicy new oak, medium weight, and finesse. While there is a heavy overlay of oak, the fruit unfolds gracefully and gently over the palate, with no hard edges. It should drink well for a decade. Tel. (707) 944-1683

Medium red. Inviting aromas of raspberry, currant, milk chocolate, loam, earth and tobacco. Medium-bodied, ripe and smooth, with burnished berry and chocolate flavors and moderate depth. Finishes with a slight edge of acidity. The winery sold off numerous barrels with high alcohol and low acidity, says Harris.
