89% Cabernet Sauvignon (Barossa Valley), 6% Shiraz (Langhorne Creek), 5% Merlot (McLaren Vale). Matured 20 months in new French and American oak. Jimmy Watson trophy winner. Lovely dense fruit character here – smooth and intense and incredibly detailed. Complemented by black olive, liquorice and spice – lovely complexity and tertiary character. Fragrant, balanced, still full of life. (RH)

From 75-cl bottle: Reasonably closed nose. Plenty of youthful fruit on the palate, and firm structure too. Really expressive, fruit-driven finish – deserves more time to allow the complexity to form further. Impressive! (RH) From magnum: Seemingly sweeter and richer than the 1998 from standard bottle – shares its limited development though – the fruit is foremost. A real long-distance runner! (RH)
